One of the biggest mistakes people make in life is rush into getting married. It is something that has to be thought of very carefully, since it involves commitment. For some, waiting for God’s perfect time is also necessary. This is what Maui and Mark have always believed in. Although their love story is far from the usual, they still waited for the time that God has wanted for them.

Kasal.com: How did the two of you meet?

Maui: We met in a construction site. We are both in the same field. I am an Architect and Mark is a Mechanical Engineer. Our story started when I resigned and my company was looking for a replacement. It just happened Mark applied in our company. It was not "love at first sight" at all. I was the one who gave him the Trade test and fortunately he passed it.

Mark: She only had a month to turn-over the work to me but when the 30-day period was about to end, I asked Maui if she could still extend work for a few more days because I knew I still could not handle the work load alone.

Maui: I had job offer abroad that time, I didn't know why I had the guilty feeling each time I thought of leaving all the work to him so I somehow extended to the point of forgetting the job offer that was waiting for me.

Mark: And that was how the friendship started.

Kasal.com: How did you know he or she is THE ONE?

Maui: Our relationship is not a perfect story with a typical sequence. We were both single (no relationship at all) but I was openly dating few of my "suitors" that time. Then when we met, there was no courtship at all. We didn't know how we would label our closeness. It happened so fast that I found it so unusual compared to my previous relationship.

Mark: Then we were blessed with an adorable creature in less than a year knowing each other.

Maui: Having been placed in a situation where you have a huge responsibility in a snap is not easy at all. You need time to accept what is now right in front of you.

Mark: We conquered and faced all the trials, accepted all the flaws and weaknesses. Together we overcame, prayed for, and protected the family we’ve had.

Maui: A Marriage need not be rushed. With almost a decade of being together, we’ve firmly believed that we two are destined forever.

Kasal.com: How did he/she propose?

Mark: It took me years to finally propose to Maui. I'm not into surprises but this time I know she deserved a proposal. It was about time.

Kasal.com: Mark, why did you choose to propose that way?

Mark: I did some research and watched different proposals but I could not figure out what I totally wanted. So, I asked for the help of Maui's siblings and friends. We just made it simple yet sweet and romantic—something that’s perfect for Maui. We had a brainstorming session on how it would turn out to be. We came up with the idea about her sister inviting her to a formal dinner with the family. We planned to have it the night before her sister was leaving for Singapore.

It was the 4th of January and everything was all set at Patio Vera in Marikina where all the staff, crews and managers served as accomplices. The awesome service of Smart Shot Studio was there to capture all the memorable moments. Since there was a setup inside, the team had to trick Maui to believe that there was an on-going promotional shoot. Without her knowledge, her family members were already there, hiding in a room waiting for the go signal so they could come out. Then the immediate family, including Maui and I, arrived 7:30pm in the venue.

The drama started; orders were taken and the accomplices delivered their lines. Then, the highlight of the night was doing "The Mannequin Challenge". I saw how excited and sport Maui was. She was properly positioned facing the screen where a prepared AVP was played. She still had no idea, until Kaizen asked her, “Will you marry my Dad?” She was so shocked. Right after, her sister turned Maui around to face me. I was lost for words and I emotionally asked her the long overdue question, “Will you marry me?” That's how lovely it went.

Kasal.com: Maui, what can you say about the proposal? How did you feel after?

Maui: Still bewildered, I didn’t know what to say like I got too emotional and I couldn't contain my happiness. Then I said my "sweetest yes". It was beyond blissful! I have been blessed with a lot of people loving me and grateful to God for allowing me to still experience a genuine proposal every woman is dreaming of. Not late but just in God's perfect time.

Kasal.com: What is your engagement session theme or concept and why?

Maui: We love traveling, so we chose three countries that are close to our hearts. The engagement sessions happened in the Philippines, Singapore, and Japan. We came up with the Idea of getting out of the box. Setting aside all the hard hats and construction stuff, we chose somewhere we would not usually go to and something we wouldn’t normally do and wear. But without complexity; we do not want to overdo it. We believe that it's all about how you project - the attitude is all that matters to get a perfect shot aside from getting brilliant photographers. We had Bohemian Style, which is unconventional, free flowing, and fashionably creative without the need of props - just simple dress and accessories. We also want something formal—tidy, orderly and decent. These are what we want to achieve.

Kasal.com: How did you arrive at choosing/selecting your suppliers and what can you say about them?

Maui and Mark: Our venue is in Patio Vera. The first time I saw it, I fell in love right away. The place itself is just perfect for an enchanted, dazzling, and elegant wedding. Accommodating and creative, Vanah of Vanahty was exceptional when she did my make-up trial. Mhoises, who did my hair, was superb. Her creativity and professionalism played a huge role and the result was beautiful. For photo and video, we chose Smart Shot Studio. One of the things a bride and groom must properly choose and invest because this is the only thing that you can look at and reminisce for years. Smart Shot Studio has been in the industry for quite long and has had satisfied clients and international awards. Considering these factors, we happily chose them to be part of our wedding. We have been professionally taken care of by Smart Shot Studio, headed by the Master and International Photographer Sir Lito Genilo from Singapore shoot to Philippine shoot. He showed remarkable mastery in every click. He knows what is best and listens to what you want. Every genuine moment that needs to be seen was perfectly captured and executed by them. Not to forget the easy-going, fun and friendly staffs, one of which is Markee Francisco. He is exceptionally hands-on and treats us preciously. We have established a friendship and bond for each other that are essential and will make a difference with the outcome of every photo.

Kasal.com: What made your prenup pictorial unique and what particular details are you proud/happy with?

Mark and Maui: We are all unique in different ways. Since we love to travel, we came up with the Idea of taking the shoot to three different countries that are significant & close to our hearts. To exactly expound it is, “You love the place; you love each other, equals LOVE in a photo. A LOVE that is abounding, rich and bursting.”

Kasal.com: What tips or advice can you share to fellow couples-to-be who are either planning their own prenup pictorial or thinking of skipping one?

Mark and Maui: To all the soon-to-be and lovely couples, we are encouraging you to have this once in a lifetime engagement session. Don't take it as a waste of time and money because photographs and videos are the only memories that you can look at, after years of being married. Invest in the right wedding photographer. It is as integral as choosing a romantic venue and finding the perfect bridal dress. Search on the net and read reviews from a supplier’s previous clients. From there you will know them and their works. The exciting feeling when you see the engagement images, you will know more on which angles you need to improve and focus on. If possible, choose same photographer who will be photographing your wedding and for the engagement session, too. Like us, we have established a friendship with Smart Shot Studio since our engagement shoots and from there, it would be easy for us to work with them on the day of our wedding. To all the couples, enjoy every moment from day 1 of preparation to the day you will exchange your sweet "I dos". Wishing everyone a lifetime of love and happiness. May the years ahead be filled with a blissful marriage. God bless! Cheers!
